The story goes that a newly divorced California entrepreneur, William Boam, 32, stopped off after work in Tustin, California to quench his thirst. He bought a six-pack of beer and a Playboy magazine, looked at them both and…Eureka! But Boam had run afoul of state and federal liquor laws banning labels that are “obscene” or “contrary to public welfare and morals.” Boam was stuck with more than 10,000 cases of his beer sitting in a New Jersey warehouse. Regardless Nude Beer, with its controversial label, was distributed in 14 states that had no such restrictions. Apparently there were a total of 59 different models included in this Nude Beer Series, but I believe the bottle on the left is the only one in that series was sold in California. At least the only one I purchased.
The second bottle on the right was produced in the 1990s by the Coast Range Brewing Company, Gilroy, CA. It had a peel-off label. Coast Range went into the ground due to its own staff and upper management.
