Here’s my first ham radio station 40+ years ago. My novice call sign was WN5LPS – Oklahoma City. It consisted of an Eico 720 crystal controlled transmitter, a Viking VFO, and a Hallicrafters S40-B receiver. I used a straight key and a 100 watt light bulb for a dummy load.
My first CW QSO was WN8SHY, Dave, in Toledo, OH
This is my new station. My call sign is now W7ZY – Battle Ground, Washington. The new station consists of a Yaesu FT-991, MD-100 desk mic, MFJ-939Y auto tuner, Samplex power supply, Bencher iambic key and a 17″ Asus laptop running Windows 10 and Ham Radio Deluxe.
Hi Russ,
I came across your site while looking for information on the MFJ-939 tuner. Very interesting site, we have a lot in common.
I have a Yaesu FT-100D working up with Ham Radio Deluxe. When I got the 939 tuner I found that there is no pass thru for the HRD connection. Do you “manually” tune your 939? Or do I not have it set up correctly?
Thanks for any info.
Dale
Hi Dale,
I’m afraid I won’t be of much help here. Even though I have the tuner and HRD, I don’t yet have an external antenna set up yet. I’m waiting for someone to climb up on my 2nd story roof, which I no longer feel comfortable doing. I have tested the tuner with a dummy load, but I haven’t tried it with HRD. Maybe someone else will respond to your comment. If you figure it out, please post your solution.
73s,
Russ – W7ZY
